Well, that’s kind of the point of the piece. I don’t believe that any subject matter taught from a white authority figure is absent racial politics. Education is political and based on power — state power, local power, building power. Teacher power. So whether you’re teaching history or, say, the quadratic formula, to ignore the dynamics of race in the interpersonal relationship of the classroom is to be less than fully effective.
